Customer Background

As a leading specialty chemical manufacturer in Europe, the enterprise focuses on the production of high-performance polymers and fine chemical products. Its production base located in North Rhine-Westphalia adopts the cyclohexane oxidation to adipic acid process, which has extremely strict requirements on oxygen purity (≥95%), supply stability and equipment energy consumption. Meanwhile, the enterprise must comply with the EU Industrial Energy Efficiency Directive (EU 2019/819) and carbon emission standards.


Core Pain Points

  • The original cryogenic air separation equipment has high energy consumption (unit oxygen power consumption: 0.55kW·h/m³) and excessive carbon footprint, putting the enterprise under the pressure of EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM);
  • The oxidation reaction is a continuous process, and the oxygen pressure fluctuation must be controlled within ±0.1bar; otherwise, it will lead to the decrease of reaction efficiency and the increase of by-products;
  • The equipment must obtain CE certification, and the materials of core components must comply with the EU REACH Regulation to eliminate the release of hazardous substances.


Solution

GNEE customized two sets of 1500Nm³/h VPSA oxygen generation units for the enterprise, adopting the technical scheme of "lithium-based molecular sieve + intelligent pressure swing adsorption":
  1. Equipped with independently developed L1-type high-efficiency molecular sieve, whose adsorption capacity is 8% higher than that of imported products, ensuring the oxygen purity is stably maintained between 95.5% and 96%;
  2. Equipped with a PLC control system, which links with the oxygen demand of the reaction kettle in real time and dynamically adjusts the pressure of the adsorption tower and the air intake volume;
  3. The whole unit is made of food-grade 316L stainless steel, and the core components have passed SGS testing to meet compliance requirements. Meanwhile, the power supply module is optimized according to the characteristics of the European power grid to adapt to the 380V/50Hz industrial power standard.


Application Effects

  • Extreme Energy Saving: The unit oxygen power consumption is reduced to 0.32kW·h/m³, with annual electricity savings of over 1.2 million kWh compared with the original equipment. The carbon emissions are reduced by 980 tons per year, successfully avoiding the risk of CBAM;
  • Process Guarantee: The oxygen pressure fluctuation is controlled within ±0.05bar, the oxidation reaction conversion rate is increased by 12%, and the by-product output is reduced by 8%;
  • Compliance Certification: The whole system has passed CE certification and energy efficiency testing, and obtained the "EU High-Efficiency and Energy-Saving Equipment" certification mark, becoming a demonstration project for the enterprise's green production.
